DobbleStone is a team of independent game developers working on a title to be announced.

Beginnings of DobbleStone

DobbleStone started as a team of six students making a board game for a course in Game Design, which was part of a cooperation between the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht and Utrecht University. Through metaphors the game explained to its players the process of game development, and the roles of the disciplines involved. It was during this time of board game development, that the team got its name: DobbleStone, which is a (too) literal translation of the Dutch word "dobbelsteen", meaning "dice".

Follow up project

After successful completion of the board game all members of DobbleStone agreed they wished to gain more experience in video game development. Because their studies in Computer Science offered little opportunity to do so, the team decided to start its own project. Originally planned as a holiday project, development of the game grew bigger and more interesting. After two of the original six members left the team (joining the board of a local student organisation, and doing an internship at Abbey Games,) a company was founded and four new members joined the team, bringing in art and sound. Currently the project DobbleStone is working on remains unannounced, but things are about to change...

Way of working

All original members of DobbleStone are currently studying for their Master's degree. In order to keep working on the project on a regular basis, development days are planned in between days of studying. The result is a somewhat reduced but steady speed of development.
